Karhan wins and Wurz with podiums in Most

The fourth of six race events for the FIA F4 CEZ (Central European Zone) Championship was held at very technical but fast Circuit at Most (CZ). The weather was unstable and the changing conditions did not make it easy for the young drivers. Furthermore the Czech drivers felt very comfortable on their home track.

Qualifying

Saturday, 03/08/24, 09.40 – 10.00, Weather: Overcast, 19°C

In this championship there are three practice sessions available on Friday, followed by the official part with one qualifying session of 20 minutes, followed by three races of 25 minutes each. The grid for the first race will be drawn up in the order of the fastest qualifying time achieved by each driver in the qualifying. The grid for the second race will be drawn up in the order of the race 1 result. The grid for the third race will be drawn up in the order of the reverse order of the 4 – 8 positons in race one (tbc according to amount of starters).
The weather was very changeable during free practice on Friday. Unfortunately, there was a major accident involving Teodor Skorpil Borenstein and Franciszek Halatnik. Both drivers were taken to hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, their lives were not in danger. But unfortunately, neither of them could continue to take part in the event. The whole team wishes them all the best from the heart and a speedy recovery.

Race One (25 minutes)

Saturday, 03/08/24, 15.25, Weather: Sunny, 25°C

The start of the first race of the weekend went well. Mikes got off to a good start, but Max, Oscar and Kutskov were immediately fighting for positions. After a few corners, Max established himself in 2^nd place and Oscar followed in 3^rd position. Kutskov had lost a bit but caught up again as the race progressed. Over long laps, Max tried to get close enough to Mikes while keeping Oscar behind him. Mikes made no mistakes and Max was unable until the end to attack him on this fast but very technical track. Oscar was several times very close to Max, but he couldn't find a way past him either, even though he recorded the fastest lap time in the race. So after a tough race, they all finished in the positions they had started in. The only changes in the field had happened behind the top four.

Race Two (25 minutes)

Sunday, 04.08.24, 10.45, Weather: Overcast, 19°C

There was a thunderstorm during the night and the track was still wet when the Formula 4 field started. All drivers had chosen rain tyres as the track was drying out very slowly. Immediately after the start Max started to attack Mikes. On the second lap he managed to get past and take the lead. Oscar followed immediately and now also put pressure on Max. Max gave him no room and Oscar slid across the gravel bed, was able to continue the race but had fallen back to 6^th place. Despite everything Oscar was very fast and managed to quickly get back into 4^th place. Not long after he overtook Mikes and Kutskov in quick succession. He soon managed to get past Max too and was now back at the front of the race. Kutskov saw his chance when Oscar overtook Max and followed suit. Kutskov overtook Max and took 2^nd place. With a lot of momentum, Kutskov surprised Oscar and took the lead. Oscar wanted to counterattack, but briefly went off the track in the last lap of the race, which gave Mikes the opportunity to move up to 2^nd place. Oscar started to pursue Mikes, misjudged the situation and ran into the back of Mikes. Oscar spun off the track with a damaged front wing and was out of the race. What a pity! Max reached the finish in 4^th place after an exciting race.
After the race, Philippe Karras received a 5 second time penalty. This moved Max up to 3^rd place.

Race Three (25 minutes)

Sunday, 04.08.24, 15.20, Weather: Cloudy, 23°C

For the third race of the weekend, the sun was peeping through the clouds. The start was successful and there was immediately a fierce battle for positions. Kutskov took the lead and after a few corners Oscar established himself in 2^nd position ahead of Karras. Max briefly went off the track and was now 4^th. He had to defend himself strongly against Mikes. But then Max managed to overtake Karras. That put him in 3^rd place. There was already a big gap to the leaders, but Max managed to steadily reduce the gap in the next few laps. In the meantime, Oscar had repeatedly tried to attack Kutskov, but he couldn't find a way forward. Max was now on to their tail and full of energy he managed to overtake Oscar. The race was now in the final stages and Max was on Kutskov's gearbox. He managed to take the lead with a nice maneuver. Max drove the fastest lap time of the race and immediately put a little distance between himself and the others. Max was the proud winner of this race. Oscar saw the checkered flag just behind Kutskov in 3^rd place and also collected good points.
