No luck at the Hungaroring
The FIA F3 Championship competed in its eighth event in the Formula 1 Aramco Magyar Nagydij 2024 program at the flowing, demanding Hungaroring near Budapest (HU). Overtaking on this track was usually not very easy and the drivers were put to the test in terms of tire management and adherence to track limits.
Qualifying
Friday, 19/07/24, 15.05 – 15.35, Weather: Sunny, 32°C
On Friday morning it was already very hot for free practice at 28°C. When the lights turned green in practice, most of the drivers were waiting in the pit lane and the real action only started in the second half of the session. Matias finished in 22nd place, Max was 24th and Charlie was 26th. They all lost some time in traffic.
The qualifying session went well, but shortly before the end Browning caused the session to be stopped with a red flag. Charlie was on his fastest lap and was unable to improve due to this situation. Matias also failed to improve enough. Max did the best, but he could have been faster in the last sector.

Race One (Sprint-Race, 40 Minutes)
Saturday, 20/07/24, 09.50, Weather: Cloudy, 26°C
Soon after the start, our drivers were involved in fierce battles in the midfield. Stenshorne and Matias collided and Matias spun off the track. His car was damaged and his race was already over. The race was briefly neutralized with the Virtual Safety Car VSC. At the restart, things got hectic again and positions were in flux across the field. Max had moved up to 14th place in the meantime and was defending this position well. But in the final laps of the race, the pressure from Stenshorne became very high and Lindblad was also on the way forward. One after the other managed to get past Max. This meant that Max saw the checkered flag in 16th place. Earlier in the race, Stenshorne and Lindblad had already passed Charlie. However, Charlie managed to keep Boya and Montoya behind him in a strong race and crossed the finish line in 17th place.

Race Two (Feature Race, 45 Minutes)
Sunday, 21/07/24, 08.25, Weather: Cloudy, 21°C
It was still pleasantly cool in Budapest in the early morning. Nevertheless, Charlie and Loake collided shortly after a heated start and both limped back to the pit lane. Charlie had to retire with a damaged car. Max had moved up to 15th place, Matias followed in 17th place. As in Saturday's race, it was Stenshorne behind Max and Lindblad behind Matias who were pushing hard to move forward. It took long laps before Stenshorne passed Max. Max was now 16th and Matias directly behind him, in 17th position. On one of the last laps, Lindblad launched an attack on Matias, which went wrong. The two ended up in the gravel and the safety car had to take over the field. When the safety car came in, there was a short sprint to the finish line, but the result did not change. Max crossed the finish line in 16th place. Matias was still classified in 28th.
After the race, Van Hoepen was disqualified due to non-conforming weight, so our drivers each moved up one place.
